A reflection on architectural design in Naples, in relation to processes of urban transformation, which identifies the theme of porosity – in the interpretation by Walter Benjamin and Asja Lacis in the essay Naples – as a direct reference and working outline. Porosity is read as a theoretical, interpretative issue and as a visual and concrete fact. The theme is tackled by associating theoretical and design issues generated from university courses and workshops (Volcanic Urbanism, Urbanism Erosion and Connected City) and from a project submitted to the Taking Buildings Down call for ideas organised by the Storefront for Art and Architecture research centre in New York. This book includes a seminal investigative essay on Naples, by Andrew Benjamin, translated into Italian for the first time.
